Rail

Waverley, in Edinburgh’s centre, is the main station. The castle can be seen from the exits. From Princes Street, go up Waverley Bridge, The Mound, Mound Place, Ramsay Lane to the castle esplanade.

Haymarket Station is at the west of Princes Street.

Bus

The Airlink 100 express bus runs from the airport and takes 25 minutes. It stops at Waverley Bridge, near the main railway station. Tickets can be bought from the information desk at International Arrivals or on the bus.

Car

The nearest parking zones are at Castle Terrace and Johnston Terrace.

Reduced price parking is available at NCP's Edinburgh Castle Terrace car park. Parking tokens must be validated at Edinburgh Castle's audio booth during your visit. The cost is £8 for 12 hours (increasing to £10 from 1st April 2016). This offer does not apply in August.

There are a limited number of spaces for disabled visitors at the castle, please book in advance on 0131 310 5114.

Bicycle

There is no bicycle rack at the castle but there are bicycle racks located within walking distance of the castle at Victoria Street, Waverley Station or Chambers Street.

Temporary road closures and coach parking

From Monday 11 to Tuesday 26 July 2016, there will be temporary road closures affecting coach parking for the castle. This is due to the summer concerts taking place on the castle esplanade. The following areas will be affected: Castle Hill, Ramsey Lane, Ramsey Garden, Mound Place, Johnston Terrace and the Lawnmarket.

Pedestrian access to Edinburgh Castle will remain via Castle Hill. Opening times to the castle will not be affected.
